I converted the tractor to 12 volts, replaced the entire wiring harness, added lights, a new radiator, new starter bendix and ring-gear, clutch, clutch release bearing, clutch shaft (rebuilt), rebuilt the rear end, added sure seals and replaced all rear end gaskets to stop a massive hydraulic fluid leak, replaced the pto shaft with standard size, added ORC etc etc etc. Most importantly I added stabilizer bars and a Zane Thang to the lift mechanism. Don't ask what it cost, but be sure that it works circles around tractors half its age. It moved all that snow!

  • 1941 Ford 9N - This is a great little tractor. It was purchased at burghs, like most of our tractors, for 1300 dollars. It was siverly rigged with semi truck tires on the back, a rool bar, and the tin was all welded up. but is did run good. When we brought it home, it was all red and grey like a massey ferguson, lets jsut say it was preaty ugly. but everything that is ugly, its just a mask. Look what this turned out to be under that mask.

  • 1943 Ford 2N - I just finished repairs (Phase 1)from the transmission forward. New paint, fuel tank, steering gears, front axel, pivot support, wheel bearings, pivot bushings, drag links and ends, tie rod ends, radiator, and cancer removal from the hood. I KNOW IT IS THE WRONG COLOR. When I have completed all repairs, I will sand blast and paint the correct colors. I have to take a break from the repairs (Phase 2 rear end) for a couple of months which is why I painted the red/gray combo. It really would look funny with Red Gray and Dark Gray. This tractor had a large loader on it and everything to do with the steering/front end was broke or worn out.

  • 1948 Ford 8N & Dearborn 10-1 Plow - MY 1948 FORD 8N TRACTOR AND AN ALL ORIGINAL DEARBORN 10-1 PLOW RESTORED BY MYSELF. The plow was made from 1947-1950 and the 10-1 models were the first Dearborn's made after the Ford/Ferguson split. It is a 14' two-bottom plow with the coulters, jointers and check chains. The plow is often called the Prior Model and the Dearborn Manual calls it the Mouldboard Plow. I have three other Dearborn Plows. One is a Model 10-8 which is a rare 12' version of the 10-1 and the other two are later 10-152's which are 12' two-bottoms.
  • 1948 Ford 8N Tractor & Dearborn 10-152 Plow - A Dearborn 10-152 12' 2-bottom plow called the Economy Plow. They were made from 1949-1956. The Economy Plows were re-engineered from their predescesor, the 10-1 models. The coulters had new clutches to lock in place so they didn't need check chains and the cross beam was new so it wouldn't turn in the field like the 10-1's did.

  • Ford 8N Battery Explosion - Saturday night I plugged in the inline block heater and put the battery charger on the battery, set for trickle charge (2 amps). This morning the block was nice and warm and the tractor was cranking quite a bit faster (but not starting yet). I left it on charge (12 amps) for about an hour and then went to try again. She spun fast enough to start but, after 4 or 5 tries she hadn't fired yet and the battery was running down. I put the charger to boost, waited about 15 seconds and hit the switch to no avail. I waited another 15 seconds and hit the starter switch...this time with results but not what I wanted.............. [From the Ford N-Board Forum]

  • Early 1941 Ford 9N - I bought this tractor in December 2002. It had been given a red belly like so many 9ns' and 2ns'. The compression was too low for it to be started. Engine had to be rebuilt. All new engine parts and Head sent to a machine shop. I ordered the paint from Dennis Carpenter's shop. I restored a Ferguson Plow and have it attached. I am still looking for one original rear Rim. The right side has an after market rim. I kept the six volt system. As of this moment, the engine has about 1 hour on it!

  • Ford 9N, 2N, 8N - Valve Assy Removal Tools - The vertical cylinder shaped thing is a valve assy from the Ford flathead. The round bar coming from the right side is the end of an old tire iron that I modified to push down hard on the valve assy to move it far enough to remove the valve guide retainer. I beveled the end because it goes in at a small angle and I wanted to get real close to the valve stem. I took some off the tip of the iron for more room in the exhaust port and I notched the bottom side for that 'hook' so I can push the valve guide down hard. This design is like that screwdriver Zane describes but that tire iron might be more 'convincing' then a big screwdriver. The large flat bar is sold as a 'valve spring compressor' and that will put a lot of upwards push on the valve assy to get it removed from the block. It fits into the valve spring most anywhere. I use a large socket sitting on the edge of the valve chamber as a fulcrum. You might have to go back and forth a couple of times to work it loose after the retainer is out but it isn't hard to do with these tools.

I am 15 years old and have always wanted a tractor and now I have one. Could someone tell me what year it is I think its a 1941 but not positive. It has the ignition switch on left side of the dash. Verticle grill bars. It is hard to read the serial number but I think it is 9n27I982 could that be right? Appreciate any help thanks. Tractor is now for sale e-mail mrm20012006@yahoo.com if interested.

  • 1945 2N Hight Limit Chains - Since the 9N/2N tractor doesn't have position control on it's three point hitch, I added these chains to keep the implements at the correct working height. The 'angle iron' welded to the seat spring was already on the tractor, all I had to fabricate was the straps to attach the chains to the lower lift arms.
  • 1942 Ford 9N - I've had this tractor for about 4 years. It still runs good, but I need the linkages for the carb and governor replaced. Any ideas on where to get them? You can reach me at thor1362@yahoo.com
  • 1948 Ford 8N & Dearborn 10-8 Mouldboard Plow - The tractor and plow have been recently restored and the Dearborn Model 10-8 Plow is all original. The Mouldboard Plows (1947-1950) were later referred to as the Prior Models when the 10-150 models came out in 1950. This is a rare 12' 2-bottom plow, sister to the 10-1 (14') model. There is an even rarer model, the 10' plow also. This 10-8 plow has the original mouldboards with the DMC diamond logo and the part number, 101517, stamped on them. It also comes with the original coulters, jointers, mouldboard extensions ( for extra tough old sod ), rolling landside (furrow wheel), and the hard-to-find weed hooks. This is one of five Dearborn Plows I own and the second to be restored for show although in a pinch it would be field ready in a minute. I use a 10-152 model for my working plow. Thanks for looking and sharing a bit of Ford Farming History!
  • 1952 Ford 8N - Serial Number 8N483599. This is Bubba in Brenham Tx's 8N. It is the best original N I have ever seen. The metal is excellent. The steering is the tightest I've ever seen. The only thing not original after 09/01/03 is the 6V is gone. I converted it into a 12V tractor. Beautifull job using the original wiring harness. Big grins riding this tractor!

Other tools not shown were the hand crank; tire pump; and grease gun.

  • 147 Ford 2N - I found this tractor under a lean too and it's preaty crusty. But I plan to rebuild the motor, rear seals and new brakes. When thats all done then I can repaint it. But all of that will take time and money, and that is somthing a 14 year dosn't have alot of. It will get done sooner or later though.
  • 1948 Ford 8N & Dearborn 10-1 Moldboard Plow - This picture was taken in October of 2002. The Dearborn 10-1 Plow was restored that past summer. It is all original except the shares may be Oliver, although back then a lot were made by Oliver.
  • 1948 Ford 8N & Dearborn 10-8 Moldboard Plow - I restored this tractor in July , 2003 with a an engine rebuild, new wiring, new paint, and new tires. The tractor is mostly original with a TAURUS tailight, worklight, flat-bar top-link, rims, headlights/wings, bumper, Cyclone Air Precleaner, stabilizer brackets, and grease gun bracket. I added the original MICHIGAN FARM license plate for looks, although at the time, the state did not require license plates on tractors. The Dearborn 10-8 Moldboard Plow, often referred to as the Prior Model Plow, is an all-original, rare 12' 2-bottom plow made in 1947. It has all the original parts, including the moldboards which have the diamond DMC logo and part number 101517 stamped on the backs, coulters, jointers, moldboard extensions, the hard-to-find weed hooks, and the Obligatory Dearborn badge.
  • 1948 Ford 8N - Correct Tools For 1948 8N Ford Tractor - Here is another picture of the correct versions of the Ford tools issued with the toolkits for the N-Series Tractors. The 9N17014 Plow Wrench and the O1A-17017-B Sparkie Wrench have the FORD script and the B-17025-A Pliers are unmarked except for the MH McKaig-Hatch logo and have the screwdriver tip handle. The two open ends are the 7/16 x 1/2 O1A-17015 and 9/16 x 5/8 O1A-17016 made by Manzel. The Moncke Wrench O1A-17021-A is the 9-1/2 Manzel version- note there is not a 3/8 square tang. The screwdriver B-17020 has the wood handle, riveted ferrule, 9/32 shank thru handle

  • 1949 8N Ford - Zero Wobble Over Running Clutch - I made this device to keep the ORC from prematurely wearing out. Like a lot of other home made gadgets, no one can afford it; but it works. I just thought others might enjoy seeing it.
  • 1948 Ford 8N - 47 Built 48 8N - This mostly original 8N is one hard working little tractor. It mows, plows snow, blades the driveway, hauls firewood, moves dirt and gravel and numerous other chores around my 37 acres. I've given it a lot of TLC since I got it but nothing major. Don't know what I'd do without it.
