1971 John Deere 4000 - Here is a 1971 add for the 4000 John Deere. John Deere literature at the time explains a 4000 as a faster 3020. Pull your 3020 implements faster. A runner, not a lugger, I suppose due to lighter rear end. When tested at Nebraska the 4000 actually had more hp than the 4020. 3020 was losing sales to the 706 and the 4000 was supposed to fix that, and be a bit cheaper than a 4020. When I bought my 4000 new in 1971 I bought it with a 5 bottom plow.
