Yesterday's Tractor Company - Antique Tractor Pictures

1963 Allis Chalmers D-17 High Crop
[Previous Pic]  [Main List]  [Next Pic]

This tractor was thrown in with a 9N and some other equipment as basically junk. It was in a mess of shape. The engine had a bad knock in it. Tore it down and found that someone had the crank turned down .010 on the mains and rod journels but installed standard bearings on the rods, mains were ok. Suprised it still had decent oil pressure, though I never ran it till it was hot with that bad knock. Rebuilt the front end, none of the standard D-17 Parts fit this front end, all of the bearings and shafts are larger than the standard parts. It has an external hydralic pump driven directly off of front of the engine and external rams. Don't know much about the unusual front end on this one, haven't seen one on this sight. Was told it's called a high crop tractor. Still needs some decals, fenders and the sheet metal below the tank to complete it. The picture is of a friend of mine and his son who loves tractors. Any information about these high crops would be appreciated. It came from the sugar cane fields of Lousiana.
