Yesterday's Tractor Company - Help Identify These Antique Tractors

Today I saw a JD 720 without a serial number plate. At some pieces there was a number on it like at the photo. (The photo is not from the 720, but from a support of my 4020). For example at the engine we found 144 and below 8. Does someone knows if there is a relation between the date on manufacturing and these numbers?
