Sears & Roebuck Grist Mill
[Previous Pic]  [Main List]  [Next Pic]

While visiting a coworker and his family I saw this old Sears Grist mill on a pile of junk out back. His Mom said she had that stuff out for a man to pick and sell for salvage. She told me I could have whatever I wanted. I jumped at the chance. I believe it had been used in the yard to plant flowers in for years. After a good soaking in penetrating oil and with the help of a torch I got the entire thing apart. I sand blasted all the parts, replaced all the nuts and bolts, acquired a new one inch main shaft (this one is stainless), retraced the grooves on the burr plates with a file, repainted, and reassembled it. I also made a new corn hopper. In the after photo I have attached it to the rear of my 1952 Massey Harris Pony. It is currently running with a home made belt from a ratchet strap and a PTO belt pully. It is once again turning out some mighty fine corn meal, grits, and cracked corn. I will post some better picutes later. I look forward to reading your comments! Have a great day!
