  • I have a 50 s Model 40 crawler and I love to push dirt around with it. It works great for grubbing small saplings for clearing land and levelling lawns for seeding and grading gravel driveways. The cylinder that raises and lowers the blade is leaking fluid terribly bad and makes for slow work waiting on the blade to move. I took the cylinder off and took it to a parts place that I have gotten John Deere parts from in the past, but I was told today that a rebuild kit is not available from Deere now. I do not know where to turn to now. Can anyone help me Do you know of a supplier for these antique crawlers Thanks, Fred

  • I have a mint condition 1949 MC Crawler. The first year of the Deere-designed crawler. serial #mc-11476 It is a 2 cylinder Johnny Put Put with a factory front end bulldozer blade and a nicely built logging jammer wench on the back. everything works. Crawler has been stored in a shed. I did not repaint because I liked the old look. This is small enough to fit on a car trailer to bring to the tractor shows. I also have the original operator s manual. I was told several years ago it was worth over 10,000 but since the times are a little harder I will sell it for 7,000 I am located in North Central Wisconsin. You can email me for pictures. My Phone # is 715-339-2789 and ask for Don.

  • I was born in 1948. I remember that in about 1954 my father came driving an MC down the dirt road where we lived. My older brother and I used it around the farm near Appleton City, Missouri until the mid 1960's. The tracks (pins and bushings) were in bad need of repair. My father had started to make the required parts, but never got the job done. In about 1969 my father disposed of the tractor in Independence, Missouri before moving to Hawaii to retire. I do not have any place to use one, but would like to own one at some time in the future. I have fond memories of the one we had when I was young.

  • I purchased my MC from my uncle 2 years ago and i'm doing a complete overhaul. The rollers and pins were done by my brother inlaw, and with the help of some good friends machined all new sleeve rollers for the rollers.I have rebuilt the final drives and steering clutchs which one was not working before. I also purchased the last two drive sprokes from John Deere that they had in stock (thats what they told me). Don,t ask how much they were as I live in Canada and had to pay the dollar exchange as well. I had the hyraulic cylinders rebuild by a friend and ordered a kit for the pump from John Deere as well as parts manual. This MC has a #602 blade on it which I believe is newer then the tractor. Next the engine.

  • I had the opportunity to drive an MC at our spring field day and thought it was rather slow but fun and easy to drive. I took it out in the field and used it to grub out a rather large rock that had been unhooking plows for years. It did not take a lot of time to learn to use the front blade to dislodge the rock. I didn't get a chance to use it on a plow, though other folks did.
