Case VC
[Return to the Shed] | | This tractor is the row-crop version of the Case V series. It came standard with a power takeoff and was available with adjustable front and rear axles. The tractor was produced from 1940 to 1942, a total of 12462 made - more than any other models within the series.

It looks very similar to the VC Model, so I assume it is a later version of the row-crop VC model. If you would like a picture, I would be glad to E-Mail one to you.I also have the original "Owners Manual" and "parts manual" along with the "Hydraulic Manual"-I imagine these are worth hanging on to - based on prices for Manuals. Ken P. wrote on Friday, July 02, 1999 (PDT):I have a 1948 Vac. It has a 5 foot WOODS brand belly mower on it. I use it to mow our very large yard. I own a small sawmill and I also use the tractor for moving around lumberwagons. My next project is to rebuild an old lumber edger and power it with the Case. I use to own a mid sixties Cub LoBoy, also with a five foot deck, {International deck.} I used it for four years, but I was always throwing money at it. The Case is ten times the tractor, I love using it, hope to have it for a long time.

F-124 engine the VA had a Case with similar displacement. the VA series also had many "conviences" such as electric start as a standard feature although it was popluar on the V.... The VA series was produced starting c 1946-7 (if memory serves) and went on for some years...FYI only two Case series up til the '50's were produced with other than Case engines V and the R's I believe.

I had a good laugh when looking through the owners manual, finding the original "Customer's Machinery and Implement Order" form only to find out that I purchased it for $300 more than it sold for new! It's been a great runner and will pull a 7 1/2' finish mower. I am currently gathering the parts to convert it over to a 12 volt system.

Where do I start looking for VC parts. I think mine is a 1942. My serial number is vc4415817. John Houser wrote on Wednesday, June 28, 2000 (PDT):When I was a kid, back in the 1950's, I worked with my dad's VC Case. It had a "bolt-on" sickle-bar mower and I cut hay and straw with it. We also used it to pull hay wagons. It was a good size for that type of work. Dad also had an SC, a DC, and a 500 Diesel. He liked Case tractors.

Don Pechan wrote on Sunday, November 26, 2000 (PST):I own a Case "VC", "VA", and several others-one of the easiest ways to tell them apart is that the"VC" engine is a flathead, and the "VA" is overhead valve, but there are many other differences. The only parts that are interchangeable between the two, that I know of, are the rear wheels. The guy who wrote that a "VAC14" is an industrial version is in error-the industrial "VA" series tractor is a "VAI". A "VAC14" is Cases attempt at making a low slung tractor to directly compete with the Ford "8N'. Case built the "V" series in 1940 and 1941 only-the "VA" series was built from 1942 until 1955. The "V" series also had vendor built trans. and rearend gears, built by Clark Co. in Michigan. Parts are not easy to find for the "V" series, although they are not so tough for the "VA" series, as they made so many more of them, try a tractor junkyard.

Gene Dotson wrote on Thursday, December 21, 2000 (PST): I have a 1941 and 1942 model VC and a 1941 model V and a 1940 VC parts tractor. Engine parts are readible as the F series engines were used in many applications. They built with displacements of 124, 140 and 162 cubic inches. The only difference in these engines is the bore size. The F124 can be identified by the Serial Number stamped on a milled boss at the top forward left side. Don't see many V series in the junk yards. Gene

Ray E Hoffman wrote on Monday, January 15, 2001 (PST):I have a 1941 VC with factory wide-adjustable front axle. The axle is a round tube rather than the I-beam used on the VAC which followed the VC. It drives and steers well, and turns as short as a tricycle. Has anyone seen a similar axle? Do all V-series people know about the registry George Brandshaw runs for that tractor, 20404 E. 351st, Archie MO 64725? He is interested in recording all V-series. Make a note of whether distributor or mag equipped, anything special like hydrualics, single-front wheel, send picture if possible. Will eventually be compiled for owner's use.

Henry Milks, Jr. wrote on Friday, May 24, 2002 (PDT):My dad had a Case VC tractor. he bought it new in 1941 at Kayes Moter Sales in Portville, New York. Dad died in 1998 and shortly after he died I was contacted by a young man who found out we had an old Case Tractor and wanted to buy it. We told him that if he tore down the old building the tractor was in and cleaned it all up, he could have the tractor for free. Needless to say he jumped right on that deal. The tractor was in sad shape. The engine was froze up and the hood and other sheet metal were rusted badly. The young guy took the tractor home on a trailer and went right to work on it. He had to get a new engine, and believe it or not found a brand new one still in the crate!!! It cost him a small fortune for it but he had to have it, because the original one was beyond repair. He also found all new sheet metal for it!! We still had all the original manuals that came with it, for tractor, plows, and Mowing Machine, and we gave all those to him also. I've seen and driven tractor since he got it all restored and it's real sharp. Hope you enjoy reading this. I'll include my home address in case you care to contact me. After using that tractor I got over my redpower addiction and it is case all the way. I must confess that I do still have my F-12 and a F-20 as well, but they are just play toys! I use the vac to bush hog, belly mower to cut grass, tiller for garden, and a baler and rake, cultivator, but I need a sickle mower.

However the VC seems to be pretty much complete, less a right rear tire & rim. It has a 4 cyl. flathead that appears to be a contintal Red seal? It has a distributor or ignition out of the head, that it is wired for. It also has a magnito that is not hooked up. The tractor has been ssitting a long time and needs a lot of TLC. I'm in the Houston area. I have a hole in the left side of the engine block that might be a drain hole for the block. Maybe, just maybe there was suppose to be a drain valve there. Also, I CAN NOT find where it ever had a oil filtering system. I have a book on the Continental engine. Pictures in that book indicate the filtration system was on the left side, just forward the starter inside a cylinder that had tubing running off of it. Do any of you have any manuals or can you take digital pictures of your VC to aid me in my restoration project? Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated. --John P. Martine

I We farmed along the Republican River near Inavale, NE. My memories of the VAC was that it beat you to death and we started it with a hand crank. 2 row machinery and long days.

We were wondering how much it was worth and if it would be worth trying to get it running. It looks like most of the parts are there. The pulley on the side is missing. The back wheels don't turn, other wise it's not in bad condition, for the condition its in.

Rich wrote on Friday, June 25, 2004 (PDT):Hello, I think I have a Case VC tractor, but I am not sure as the serial number plate is missing. Any tell-tale attributes that you know of to uniquely identify it as a VC? Also, this tractor has what a appears to be a hydraulic lift on the rear end by the PTO shaft. I have replaced the transmission gear lube, but there is yet another resevoir associated with this lift. Any idea what type of fluid should be installed? What came out of this resevoir looked like heavy gear lube, but I think it probably should have hydraulic fluid installed. I welcome any advice. Rich

A fourth gear was added when rubber tyres where available. its resting in the shed ready to restore! have a full set of mid mounted cultivators and part of one furrow plough. My problem is color scheme. My dad's VC case was all yellow. As the picture was taken in about 1954 I do not think the tractor had been repainted. The tractor I have seems to have red frame but yellow sheetmetal and fenders. I was impressed with the power enough so that a full resto was in order for the winter. Come spring when we rolled her out of the shop it was off to the pulls. with the tractor weighing in at 2,650# we loaded her for 3,000# class. After spinning out with too much power we went to 3,500 4,500 and then 5,500 when she was really starting to hook up great but I ran out of places to hang weight. I have to say that after all these years being a green blooded 2 cyl fan I think there might just be some flambeu red seaping in. Hey if anyone knows how I can find out more about my case where it was made, sold, and whom was her 1st owner. and any site pertaining to the VA series I would greatly appriciate it. remember too that old tractors can be a great family hobbie. Keith wrote on Sunday, November 21, 2004 (PST):Have just purchased a 1953 Case VA, with band brakes (in WA State). One brake (right side) was totally frozen and I need parts. I have to replace the oil seals both sides. It may have to do with someone putting AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID!?!?!?!? into the final drive. It was mixed around 75/25, but made the 90 weight red. I mostly need the internal parts, but before I have them removed, the brake housing may get damaged as well. I have been working at removing the rusted Brake Drum Nut (2" dia.) for the last week. Any ideas?? THANKS

My wife tells me it did have an old Ford starter in it. The pitch or distance as measured from the top of one gear to another on the fly-wheel or driven gear measures about 3/8 of an inch. Please help me identify and locate a new or used starter. Thank you very much for your help. Jim
