This picture is a 1942 model. The Case LA series replaced the L series in 1940 and was basically an updated version of the L. Some of the options available were PTO, electric start, and hood-sides. It ended production in 1952 with a total of 35493 being made. |

He had a LA Case tractor that he was going to restore but never made it around to doing so. As far as we know it;s ; A tractor that pulled a grator, It granks on gas will run on fuel, It has a hand crank on the front, or electric start and a magnito in it. I just know that my dad would not have wanted to see this go to a junk yard. I can get pictures if needed. Thanks Liz

Dad liked it because he could pull the oneway, seed drill,and packer hooked together, putting in the crop in one trip. Was a gas hog as I remember.

I originally bought it in the hopes of doing some farming, however, I do not have enough water rights to irrigate the acreage that I have. When plowing the massive 4-cylinder high torque engine would pull down before the sluggish governor would react. When it opened up the LA would make a rip roaring leap forward through the toughest conditions. Its bid drawback was high fuel consumption. It would burn over 60 galons of gasoline in a 10 hour day. We finally traded it for an IH diesel which did the same work on 35 gallons of diesel fuel.

Gordon Ferguson wrote on Sunday, December 01, 2002 (PST):Looking for engine parts; belt pully; exhaust for recently aquired case LA serial no 5408866LA. There is no footbrake fitted just a handbrake but the linkage to the brake drum is missing. There is a square hole in the footplate beside the handbrake lever. Is this anything to do with a footbrake pedal that should have been fitted or was fitted at one time? Any help most appreciated. Western Australia.

They were all on propane. It took days to plow an 80 or a Quarter Section. Thank God for the 4020 John Deere.

I was too young to know the exact model ? It looked very similar to the LA, especially the rubber wheels but was gray in colour with square fenders. Scott Stucky wrote on Thursday, June 22, 2000 (PDT):My grandfather had a 1941 LA, the first year they were made. It was quite a hunk of iron, with huge 20" front tires. It burned white gas. I drove it quite a bit in 1959-61. It had a lot of power but no hydraulics, so you had to yank a rope (and hope)to get your plow out of the ground. It did not have individual rear wheel brakes and thus took a mile to turn around. He traded it in 1961 for an 830 LP-gas Case-O-Matic which was a piece of junk.
