Antique Allis Chalmers Tractor: AC B

[Allis Chalmers B Parts]     [Return to the Shed]

This picture is a 1938 model. The Model B was very popular due to its versatility and could be adapted to a wide variety of row spacings and crops. This one-plow, one-row tractor was perfect for small farms. It had about two-thirds the power of the larger Allis-Chalmers WC. A complete line of implements, mowers, planters and even a harvester were available for this tractor.

Anyway it is in excellent shape and paint almost looks new not old and very clean!!! I will only be using the tractor to put in small food plots for deer hunting. Can I pull a plow with this tractor and what do you suggest so I do not over work the tractor? Can a starter be put on this tractor? I must admit when I looked at this tractor it was covered and cold and the guy had it running on the second crank, and it purred!!! Can hydraulics be added and or a three point something the fords had but where much much more expensive. Please mail me back and let me know? Thank You, Jamie

I was 10 at the time and my sister and I would go to Grandpa and Grandma's during the summer to move wood from the outdoor pile into the woodshed to dry. I think that first summer Grandpa spent more time coaching me to back the trailer than we did loading wood, but what great memories. That "B" is still on the farm and still works on a regular basis. It's a spectacular little tractor.

The reason I ask is that the seat spring broke, and i'm having difficulty locating a replacement. All other Bs (except 1, i did see a 1946 B with a pan seat)that I have seen have the padded black seat. There is also a shock under the seat, which is worn out, probably why the spring broke. • I have an AC tractor that belonged to my Grandfather. I'm not sure what year or model it is; I know that he purchased it back in the mid-to-late 50s. The back wheels are adjustable so that they widened. It has all the farm implements that were made for it--sickle, bush hog, plows, etc. It still runs. What I'm wondering is, where do I look to find the serial number or model number? Thanks!

Both were trycicle tractors, and magneto ignition. The larger WC was crank started, the smaller AC B was 6 volt starter, or crank. I spent many days on the AC B fixing fence, pulling a wagon with posts, wire, and tools. It was a wonderful small tractor for the work around Grandpas farm. I regret now that Grandpa sold both tractors in very good working condition over 20 years ago. They would be a prize to cherish, along with all the fond memories of sitting beside Grandpa as a child on that AC B's bench seat. Terry Smith.

  • I have two AC tractors that look the same in your photo. Unsure whether they are both model B's. One is a crank start with hand brakes the other is multi start with lights and foot brakes. I have restored the multi start one and are using it as a boat tractor for towing and launching a small pleasure boat at our beach house. I used a rust inhibitor coat over the tractor before painting it and galvanized the wheel rims for good rust protection in salt water. It is washed down after every launch and it still looks a picture. I am thinking of mounting a winch system on the rear of it and wonder whether anyone has already done this using the AC's electrical, hydrualic or PTO systems. Any help would be appreciated. PS; My apologies to all those AC owners who believe it's scarilege to retire old AC tractors to lighter duties by the sea, when this may well have been the good fortune of many of their old drivers.
