After I learned to drive, he would pull a JD 4 disc tiller with the WC and I would pull one with the CA to turn land. When I got a little older I would turn land with the WC while Daddy worked a public job. I remember the WC had hand brakes only, the seat was off center to the right and the tiller had a manual lift so when you turned to the left you would reach back and grab the rope to trip the tiller lift while turning the steering wheel to the left. This would throw you even further to the right away from the left brake handle. You would have to really stretch to reach the brake lever to help with the turn. Quite a struggle for a 13 or 14 year old kid. I thought I was in heaven in 61 when he traded both in on a new JD 2010 with power steering and hydraulic connections so we could use a hydraulic cylinder lift.

Front two wheels are close together. I grandchild would love to see somebody restore, or use it for parts instead of it rotting away. It appears to be intact except for busted up grill and radiator missing, and spark plug wires from cows eating them.The engine of coarse is locked up from sitting, but supposedly new liners and pistons before he passed away in mid 70 s. It s a 1931 Model Only the early 22-36 s had E4-A magnetos, they started using other ones sometime during the 30 s but I forgot which ones. And the 15-30 and 22-36 had different belt pulley housings.You can tell if you look at a belt pulley housing on a 15-30 and 22-36 by looking at the opposite side of the belt pulley position, wheretake out the pulley shaft, the plate bolted on the 15-30 will be round and on a 22-36 the plate will be square. That is how you tell the difference on the outside.

The tractor was a Model L or possibly a Model C . I could stop it by pulling the clutch lever back. To drive forward, I had to just hold the clutch lever forward so I could not drive it in the field. I was not big enough to push the clutch lever forward to lock it in place. My frist accident also involved the Model L. I hit a steel gate post in third gear, I think with the left front wheel. The front axle bent back about 6 or so inches. My Dad had to pay 2.50 to have the axle heated and straightened out. My excuse; the steering gears were so worn that one had to turn the steering a full turn to start going the other direction. I do not recall getting a spanking after the wreck, so my excuse must have worked. Thanks for the Memories......BJ

He bought the tractor brand new in Evart, MI. I, as a young girl, use to drive the tractor on the hay wagon while my brothers would load the bails of hay. Then one Saturday, my brother couldn t get off work to help my Dad, so I took his place helping. What was it doing. None other than driving it on the manure spreader. I dearly loved this tractor and am proud to have it. I am the only remaining family member, had to wait 37 or so years to get it but it still carries some pleasant memories. Other than for the paint, the clutch pad is all that needs to be replaced. It was all over-hauled recently and the motor runs like a top. I don t think a case can be beat. They are my favorite tractor.

My brother would push the clutch with both feet while I engaged the transmission lever. At noon we would refuel it with the engine running, add a quart of oil and, head back to the field. In other words, it literally ran all day long because we were not large enough to crank it.

Easy steering for the day and decent horsepower. My stepfather had a DC and CC and a friend had two DC s, one brand new in 1954 with a mounted plow. I have a friend Dennis Bjorling that owns a DC and a SC and wants to sell them as he has no interest in them. Both have loaders on them and one has new rear tires. The engines ran a while back and we are working to get them going again so we can get them in the machine shed.

About five or six years later we were cutting wheat and my Uncle, who was driving the tractor, stopped and asked me if I would drive a while so he could take a break! My first tractor driving! After another year or two I was allowed to drive it pretty regularly. I remember vividly the sound and smell of that tractor and the strength required sometimes to turn it in plowed ground.

It was also handy to pull big rocks. Front end would come off ground but with hand clutch, could handle with no problem. The only thing that was bad about the SC was its brakes. Seem to go bad all the time. I live in Missouri and would like to buy a 46 SC case if anyone has one in Missouri. Also my dad took a distributor off of a M Farmall and replaced the MAG on the old SC case. IT ran OK. The M Farmall was a 1951

Randy wrote on Friday, September 22, 2006 (PDT):A 1943 SC Case was my dad's favorite tractor. The suspension seat and increased power was a huge jump from his first tracror, a 1936 Farmall F12. Dad said he never got tired working the Case in the field, and he loved the hand clutch. We still have his tractor here on the farm and until recently was a working tractor. Evidently a Case 4JMA magneto is not a common unit and ignition points are not available. I have explored the internet for replacement parts to no avail - any of you Case experts got a line on any 4JMA ignition points?

I can't find a data plate, but found a STAMPED# on the left rear engine-trans flange. It's D 430 3829. Is this the serial#? It looks like pics of an SC or a D. It is complete, been sitting for years, was running when parked years ago. Rear wheels are badly rusted from chloride, tires are shot, but has a wide front end. I am changing the traans. and Hyd. system oil, but can't find anyone to tell me what kind for sure. I bought Universal Transmission/Hydraulic oil from Rueal King, it is recomended for Case, but newer models. The man at RK said that is what they use in all of their tractors. LancasterPA Jon wrote on Friday, June 09, 2006 (PDT):AC's are in my blood line; Grandpa (pronounced Gram Paw in my youth) owned a WD, at least one WC, 2 Bs (one with a sickle bar mower seemingly a permanent fixture and the other alternating cultivators and a 2-man planting platform for tobacco seedling transplanting) and my favorite Model G with the manual quadrant-raised front and rear cultvators. My cousin and I could easily pop wheelies by letting the clutch out quickly. (Please! Do not try this at home!) Our 70-pound physiques could not counter-balance that rear engine and Grandpa didn't employ the optional weight which mounts over the steering gear (I didn't know that part even existed until a couple of years ago when I saw one on a show tractor) What a great view of the row this little tractor offered the driver! It was a nearly perfect cultivator rig and many local owners considered it a must for raising tobacco. I think that's why so few have the plows or other available attachments. Sadly, most of the tractors were destroyed in an arson barn fire around 1970.

The tractor Serial# was 1700035 and the implements were shipped there from King St Toronto Ont.The dealer G poole Equip delivered and set up by installing lights on the tractor and doing a demonstration with the mower and baler as it was haying season. I remember being perty excited as I was about 10 years old at the time. It was kind of humourous watching my grandfather make the first round in the field as he always was used to driving horses, the dealer thought that he might take the clutch out of the tractor before he got around the field Hah. Well he did make it and we did a lot of work with it until 1981 when we sold the farm, My sister bought the tractor at the sale and took the tractor to cumbermere ont where they used it a number of years before they sold it to a garage If i new where it had goneto I would buy it again A really good tractor

Halfway stopped tractor the rest of the way stopped pto. It was one of the first life power tractors. Fergi did not join Massey till 1959. a 57 35 fergi should be grey with a dark green frame.

It was slanted and made a good bed for a 6 year old boy!! Also remember when the seat got to hard, dad would set the wheels in the furrow with the 3 bottom plow in the ground and get off & walk along side it while it went down through the field plowing along. What great memorys!!

While driving up US 60 towards Salem In., I noticed an SC Case sitting at a business alongside the highway. I thought I would stop on my way home and take a look at it. I spoke with the man on my way back and asked him if he knew where it came from and he said yes, it was owned by a man in Elizabeth Indiana that lived up on the hill from the high school. I realized that he was talking about my uncle and I knew now why the tractor looked familiar; I had grown up farming with it. I went over and examined the fuel tank and sure enough, there was the dent I had put in it so many years earlier! Needless to say, I talked him into selling it to me for $1200.00 and it is running a little rough; carburator will not idle. I will need to do some work on it, but it has a lot of good memories and good paint and I'm sure it has plenty of work years left in it, if only mowing grass at the Church cemetary on the hill.

In two recent publications I have seen pictures of what appears to be an SC, but both were described as model D tractors. Both of the tractors were exports, one to Canada and one to UK. Did Case designate export tractors differently than US models, or were these misprints. As much time as I spent in the saddle of that SC and DC, believe me, I do know the difference. Then it died. A local yokal mek i nak said it was probably the magnito so he removed it and when he replased it, it must not have been lined up correctly, because when it turned over it arched and cracked the cap. so for the last year Ihave been searching for someone who knows anything about this problem. AsI remember ,he pulled a 3bottom, 14inch plow with it in clay ground. Many times when he got tired, he would put the wheels in the furrow and get off and walked along side the old Case as it "drove" itself down the furrow. Not a real good idea, but at the time we never gave it much thought. It never did get away from him though!

Dwight Giles wrote on Monday, November 24, 2003 (PST):I have a 1934-35? T-20 that I have been working on for about five years. Engine is done, transmission through steering clutches gone through, presently working on left side final drive and undercarriage. I am, however, confused by the serial number, 2772 HA/5, on the engine which would indicate a 1934 TracTracTor with engine component casting dates of 3-22-C and 6-8-C which would indicate 1933 castings. The problem is that the casting dates on the frame and gear cast housing are 7-29-35 and 4-26-35 indicating parts cast in 1935. The serial number plate was missing on this TracTracTor. Any comparisons of other T-20 serial number and casting dates would be appreciated.

Use TD-6, TD-9, TD-9B, TD-14, TD-15 and 3 TD-18' Lighter & faster than Caterpillar!

My dad farmed all his life with what was intended as a temporary barn. When he bought the WC his father said, "You won't be needing so many horses now, so you don't need a fancy barn either." I started driving the WC before I was strong enough to start it with the hand crank. I was a tall, skinny kid and could just barely reach the clutch. I remember the hand brake handles had been welded several times, because occasionally when dad turned around at the end of the field he would jerk back on the hand brake with enough force that the handle would break off. I know it originally came with steel wheels, but he soon put on rubber tires. We used to pull an old steel wheel behind the tractor to smooth out the gravel in the driveway. When dad bought a brand new WD, I thought it was the finest piece of machinery ever invented. I loved to drive it, but cultivating corn was a nightmarish experience. I could never say awake on those hot june days. When I went away to college, dad bought a manure scoop for the front of the WD.

It has a mower on the back. I've never worked on a tractor before. We've replaced the coil,points,condenser,spark plugs , and high tension wires. Everyone here seems to think it's the coil, but i've replaced that twice with no improvement. landon a laub wrote on Friday, May 23, 2003 (PDT):I have a 1955 TO-35 that my father bought new. It has 3,200 and some odd original hours on it. He also bought the 3-bottom plow and the cultivators. The cultivators came with the T0-20 that I have that he also bought new. I even have the original wheel weights for the TO-35. He used it as his main tractor back then to farm 92 acres. The TO-20 is siezed up and has been outside most all of it's life. The TO-35 is still working but right now I need a radiator and the generator rebuilt. I also have the manure loader. They sure are and were great tractors. I am 51 years old now and my TO-20 was the first vehicle my dad taught me to drive(steer)while he and my uncle picked up hay bales to load to wagon in the hayfields...... Just thought I'd share a bit of my early life with you others Ferguson lovers.

I have just bought a FERGUSON which some people tell me in R.S.A. it is called a "vaaljappie" this nick name was given for its grey colour. I understand it is a Ferguson TED. I am not sure exactly what year it was manufactured. I think it is around a 1950 model, since it has a hydrolic lifter with a hand clutch. For Christmas in 1949 he gave me a toy Case tractor & wagon. In March of 1950 he died of a massive heart attack. I also had a complete set of John Deere farm machinery. In 1960 our house burned and I managed to get the Case tractor out and the other toys burned up. The toy Case is built like a Model SC or DC. Just recently I saw the front of a Case tractor in a shed on a barn at Warsaw, Ky. I stopped and asked the gentleman if I could look at it. He said that would be ok and if I liked it he would put it in my home. I bought the tractor and I have it at home and am in the process of restoring it. It looks just like the toy tractor my brother gave me in 1949.

Fry wrote on Saturday, March 29, 2003 (PST):Just purchased a really nice Case SC last week at a junk auction, (3-24-03) I could not stay there so I put a reserve price on it. they called that evening and said I had the last bid. this tractor was in really nice shape not even a mark or ding on the tin! It has the older style 3 pt hitch,(works) and even the original hand crank under the seat!. has the pto cover but no fenders, but the brackets are there. I really wanted the tractor for the engine and clutch to put in my Case SI unit I purchased a year ago.. the SI WAS a military unit as it has the all the original brass plates on it still saying it was in the airborne unit and tells the date and tractor weight. what a find! but,,, I since the SC works so good, I don't have the heart to dismantle it, so I guess I will just take it to the local tractor pull and beat the Farmall H's.. My love for the L and LA was born one day about 1950 when I was about 10 years old. In eastern Ks where dad farmed the farms were small and the biggest tractors were DC's, M's, WD's,A's,88's. A neighbor had a son farming in western Ks where farms were big. They hauled an LA from western Ks to our small farm community to do some heavy tillage. One of my lasting impression is hearing "something" coming up the road that was definitely louder and different than the usual tractor. As it passed our house, it was the biggest, most awesome tractor I had ever seen and it was towing a great big one-way plow. I ran down the road to the field where the LA was working. After following it through the field on foot for I don't remember how long, I was invited to ride on it. For a poor farm boy, life didn't get any better than that!!!

The loader has an auxilliary pump that runs off the front end. My question has to do with the colour of the tractor, which is red and silver/grey. The tractor was purchased originally from a local Massey dealer whose decal is still on it and has not been painted by the subsequent owners. Where the paint is worn a bit I can spot the dark green on the chassis. Were any of the tractors from the Racine, Wisconsin, plant repainted in MF colours before they were sold by dealers in southwestern Ontario? Any thoughts?? I am also looking for a tail light since mine got lost somewhere over the years. Thanks.

They then put both plows behind the L ( 6 bottoms) it pulled them! I suppose in low gear. Anyway it made quite an impression. This was in Cazenovia, Mn. I have a 29 L. what a power house! It's nearly impossible to kill the motor! Ilove doing belt and plowing with it. The size of the engine parts (rods,valves ect. ) is amazing.

It has a single stage clutch like on the "Special" But the console has the steering wheel and all the instruments (tack,oil, amp,temp)like described on the "Deluxe" Which one is it? Also the hood has places for four metal nameplates. One on the nose, two "Ferguson-35" to each side and one on the right side that I don't know what it is. Can you help? After peeling off many different layers of color paint. The last colors were light gray(like Ford gray from "TSC") and dark green on the chassis under the pedals and hyd. lift arms.

I want to restore it but can't seem to find any pictures that say they show the original colors. On both sides of the hood there are three holes for what I think should be two emblems. Travis wrote on Monday, June 18, 2001 (PDT):My Grandfather used to work on Case and Allis Chalmers tractors when I was still in diapers, he passed away before I had the chance to get aquainted with him, When I was deciding what to do in my high school ag class four years ago I obtained my father's permission to restore a 1929 L that was passed down from my Grandfather. I spent a little over a year on it and when I finished I had a nice looking tractor with a solid oak floor that was done for amusement purposes and a nice way to pay tribute to the Grandfather that I never had the chance to get to know. When this project was completed, I continued on with a 37 CC and a 50 DC. What a great way to get in touch with the past.

Patrick Graham wrote on Saturday, March 10, 2001 (PST): I recently purchased an old 1944 Allis Chalmers WC. I found it in a farmers barn and it hadn't been running in a couple of years. He told me it was a WD. After finding the serial number on the rear pumpkin I found it was a WC. It still runs but needs a little TLC. One rear rim is smaller than the other. It needs a new exhaust stack, but it runs fine. For 250.00 I think I found a great deal. I don't know what the letter "S" stamped after the serial number means. If anyone knows the answer please let me know. Thanks

Grandpa converted it to rubber tires and installed a steel cab on it in 1946. He needed the cab bacause he pulled a cornpicker with it in the cold falls here in South Dakota.

My serial number indicates that I have a 1955 Model, possiable very late 1955.The metal work is MF Red and gray engine etc.How early did they start painting them MF Red.I cannot find any indication that it has ever been re-painted.Is it possiable that this is one of the 1956 or 1957 models? Both my brother and I have driven these. I'am now in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in British Columbia Canada, and often recall those days growing up on the farm. I met one of my fathers old Hired Men, he told me that when the model L case was new, my dad and the Hiredman "Reg" used 450 , 45 gal of fuel in one year, the tractor was worked around the clock. with a lantern hung on the front for night. There isn't any paint left on it. The orignal lugs and lug extensions are still on it. The tractor was last used in 52 for theshing and was parked along with a 28" Allis Chalmers threshing machine. The threshing machine is in poor shape with all the wood and belts gone although the metal is good. I'm considering selling it and am wondering what it's worth. By the way it's located in eastern North Dakota.

Bought it as-is. Spent less than I would want to go up and haul it back, having done that once before. My first impression is that it's a solid, honest looking design. So much so, that you could call it nondescript. Purely functional. Kind of like a military truck. Only other I remember nearby was at Grand Rapids, MN threshing show. I also have an RC Case s/n 4404848. Now, there you have style and distinction.

Robert wrote on Wednesday, August 23, 2000 (PDT):Hope this helps out for all of the posts asking about the location of the serial number for the WC. It is on the rear of the rear end housing. It should be "WC" followed by the serial number. It is genarally not too difficult to find the location of the serial numbers. There is a smooth place on the rear end housing where the numbers were stamped. I take a wire brush with me when I am looking at one to buy so I can brush the rust off of the number to make it easier to read. Then wetting it down with a litle bit of water to wash off the dust created by the wire brush makes the numbers easier to read.

My brother finally traded it off to a Case dealer for a quick hitch to go on our 1370. The dealer really wanted the old L. The dealer is now out of business but still has the tractor minus the front end. We've also owned a CC, DC, 300, 400, 1030, 1070 and 1370. I still have the 300 (1956 GD 157 Diesel) and the 1070. If anyone can help me find a water pump for the 300 I really would appreciate it. Parts are scarce because it had the GD 157 Continental engine. The patents ran out years ago. Bill Haines wrote on Thursday, August 17, 2000 (PDT):My father Gilly Haines a well known agricultural contractor in Hampshire U.K. owned and operated a threewheeled Case for quite a number of years using it for towing a Case Baler. He owned two of these balers which produced wire tied bales and required two men sitting either side of the bale chamber to thread and tie the wire. I as a teenager spent many hours driving the Case tractor towing the baler, and rember it as being a delight to drive. The hand clutch and oil immersed independant disk brakes made it a deligtfull tractor to drive with a tight turning circle. And it had a top speed on the road of around fifteen miles per hour usefull for transporting the baler between farms, and quicker than the Fordson Major's 7 MPH which he used to tow a Massey Harris Combine Harvester. Upon his retirement in the late 1950's Gilly desposed of his machinery the Case going to a farm in the Village of Rownhams.

Wolf wrote on Sunday, July 02, 2000 (PDT):Two brothers (Frank & Will Jones) owned two 22-36's that they used for belt power on their two Russell Threshing machines in the 30's and 40's after they scraped out their old Russell Steam engines for the War effort in the 1940's. It was a decidedly stupid mistake to cut up the old steam engines; later they sold the old 22-36's another mistake, because in later yours Frank married my dad's oldest sister and he and my father helped organize the original Northern Illinois Steam Power Club at Sycamore, Illinois, in the mid 1950's and they really wished that they had both the steam and old gas tractors back....so goes life...I feel the same!

I remember that it had a horizintal muffler under the right floorboard. It would get so hot that you had to move your foot. Eventually my father put a vertical muffler on it.

It has been partially dissasembled, mostly just the engine is out and torn apart. I have always wanted a crawler, but I don't know much about them. I gave 1000 dollars for both and figured that was a fair price. I don't think it will take much to get the complete one running, or so I hope. Ron J wrote on Thursday, April 13, 2000 (PDT):The picture is definitely a 22-36, by looking at the side curtains the up graded 15-30 (or 22-36) has a raised rectangular area between the vents as does this tractor. The exhaust probably has an aftermarket manifold on it. I have one of these tractors also and it has an aftermarket manifold that takes it through the hood instead of out the side curtain, and mine also has rubber on cutoffs also.

I am getting ready to repaint it this month. I found a place close that had original decals. I also have a WD45 that I am restoring I do love that ORANGE!!!!!

In 1947 or 48, we had the Case Co's. protype self propelled combine on our farm. There were many changes made, at that time, to the mobilization portion. Could go on and on. I bought it for 300$ and the guy I bought it from helped me and is a life time Case collector. We split the tractor because the clutch was shot and so we replaced that. The front pulley was cobbled together so we drilled new holes and put it back together. We adjusted the brakes and cleaned it up a little.We added a maniflod and a carb.If you have any questions I might be able to get back to you.

Its in good running condition though it has a few cracks in the cowl and fenders, due to long faithful use on the family farm. It used to be gray sheetmetal over green mechanicals, but the sheetmetal was painted Ford blue when we bought a new ford brush-hog. It once had side curtains im not sure what happened to em. I do know that its headlights and taillight are not working, but all the hydraulics work and the old L-head moter is in fine running condition. Where could I possibly find a new wire harness for the lights and since the brush hog shat the bed where can I get the gray paint (we're planning on restoring it to honour my grandfather who recently passed away, god rest his soul) any and all leads will be greatly appreciated.

It has been sitting under a shed since. I've contacted a gentleman (heavy equipment mechanic by trade) who tinkers with antique tractors. He's briefly checked it and turned over the crank and said, "That old dog's got lots of fire." We plan to add new oil, gas, water, and fire it up. (It ran great the last time it was used in 1979 to run a hammer-mill to grind corn and grain for cow feed.) If she fires up and runs, I'll buy new tires and consider moderate restoration. Anyone have any suggestions for what to or not to do. Thanks.

The hand clutch made it the best tractor we have ever used to bale with. It set in the woods for 14 years and the motor stuck, so I shot diesel fuel in the cylinders. A couple days later my wife pulled me up the road and it broke free on the first try. After rewiring it and rebuilding the carb the tractor fired up and ran like a charm. NOTHING RUNS LIKE A CASE!!!

It developed cracks in the cylinder liners, and when I disassembled the engine more and more problems presented themselves, and to make a long story short the engine is a lost cause. Chris Short wrote on Sunday, August 22, 1999 (PDT):I have a 1954 TEF 20, four-cylinder diesel, well-used but in basically good order. Unfortunately the hydraulics exhibit some unpleasant characteristics. It is impossible to find a 'neutral' position, the arms either go up or down. With the tractor not running, the arms creep back down, the speed with which this occurs depends on the weight of the implement and the position of the lever. I would like to fit a front end loader but most information suggests the internal pump is not really strong enough and there is also the fact that the tractor doesn't have live hydraulics, ie, dip the clutch and it all stops. I have seen some material about an external hydraulic pump, driven directly from the crank at the front of the tractor. I would appreciate any information about such a project. It is also worth mentioning that I am in Australia, so there is not quite the abundance of parts and information that many of you enjoy in the States or UK. Thanks to anyone who has the time to respond.

Hal wrote on Tuesday, July 13, 1999 (PDT):I have a 1948 WC which I have rebuilt the engine and electical system on. I recently put a muffler on in place of the straight pipe. I got tired of wearing ear plugs. It purrs like a kitten now. I have the original seat on it but the back is missing which makes it real easy to step up on. Also, my WC has an aftermarket set of foot brakes on it. I can either use the hand brake or the foot brake.

Dave wrote on Friday, July 02, 1999 (PDT):I have a Case Tractor Ser#4805201S, in great running condition. I believe it is a Model S as shown in the Ser#, I would like to get manuals for it. However, there seems to be 5 or 6 different ones. My tractor has a towing hitch on the back shaped in a half circle, the tow bar itself has a wheel on it and it rolls on this half circle. It also has a plow frame on the front with a hydrolic system that lifts a ground grading blade. Which manuals should I get. This tractor was purchased a number of years ago by my father-in-law. Who has now passed away. My wife and I purchased the property and the tractor came with it. The tractor was stored outside for a few years not running, but with a bit of hard work on my part it is now running great, and I am using a 5 foot brush deck and cutting the fields. I hope that someone can help me get the correct manuals so that I can restore it and keep it running. Thanks, this is a great web site.

After driving the 35 I checked the oil and the oil had a milky look. The price for this tractor was 5000.00. After seeing the oil I was alittle shacky about purchasing this tractor. Could you give me some idea what was wrong causing the oil to be like this.

I don't have much time for it so it will probably take another 4 years to finish. I bought it in pieces and now it runs great so we've already made significant progress. I don't farm but if I did I think this tractor would be a good piece of equipment. The hand clutch has its benefits.

I remember driveing the tractor when I was young. The carb. crapped out and the tractor was parked. I am trying to fix this tractor to sell it. The tractor is in good shape but has been repainted at some time. I do not know how many hours are on it but as I work on it I'm not finding much wrong. So far it is limited to the points/condenser and the needle on the carb. My questions are, #1 What are the differences in the models made? How do I tell what I have? And how much is this tractor worth? It is not in show room shape but is a solid little tactor. It would make a great mowing tractor. Would $1000 -$1500 be out of line on this?
