Kevin Hedquist wrote on Monday, November 07, 2022 (PST): I totally understand as I have ordered and replaced this gasket twice on my 1941 Ford 9N so far. You need to find the top two bolt holes on your gasket. They are slightly farther apart than the rest of them. The holes will match up better than if you just put the gasket on expecting the bolts to all be the same space apart. The parts book says that there should be two on each side. What I have done is put the gasket on the diff housing and matched up the holes then use some Perma gasket to hold it in place while I put the second one on top. Then I put another coat of Perma gasket on the second one to ensure it seals to both sides. I'm not sure why it calls for two gaskets for each side, but an extra 4 to put the thin gasket sheets on, shouldn't break the bank. This was a learning experience for me and I just found this out the last time I put this gasket on, which was this weekend... I know that this is an issue that is rather old, but I hope that it can help someone else who is struggling with this same issue. As far as using RTV as a gasket, whoever tried to repair my tractor before used it and used it in excess. I'd rather try to scrap off a paper gasket with a Perma gasket than try to clean off that RTV and keep it from getting into the interior of the tractor and causing other issues. Believe me, it's not fun cleaning that crap off when it's been overly used. Hope this helps someone.
