John Deere 720 - Went For A Ride - I have been trying to get the bugs worked out this old tractor, and was constantly taking the hood on and off. To remove the hood you have to remove the roll pin holding the steering shaft in the front power steering pedestal. So after getting doing this a bunch of times I just left it out. I had just put a new rad in the tractor and had been running it around the farm to see if she was gonna stay cool, the tractor was staying cool I decided to take it for a road test and when I got back put the tin work on and take her to the tractor pull the next day. Well I went down the road over a big hill got off checked block temperature and rad temp with my heat gun. Put her in 6th engaged the clutch started driving down the road and it started steering for the ditch I instantly started turning the wheel and here it pulled out of the splines at the front. I rode it down the ditch sheared off three trees and next thing I know I was facing rear ward half sitting on the decompression leaver and starter drive leaver and the old girl was still thumping away into the trees I pulled decompression leaver and shut it down. Called my dad who came with a chainsaw and a lot of chain we pulled her out and made it to the pull the next day!
